Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Trecia Pimer!

Westerly Public Schools District Teacher of the Year 2024-2025

Trecia has made an extraordinary impact on the lives of her students and the broader Rhode Island community through her unwavering advocacy and dedication to special education. She played a key role in passing the “Blue Envelope Initiative,” aimed at improving communication between law enforcement and individuals on the autism spectrum, and has raised statewide awareness for specialized dental care for individuals with special needs. Trecia has been instrumental in seeking access to public transportation for her students, empowering them to participate in community activities and employment opportunities. Her innovative transition programs include job placements in local businesses and initiatives like the “Deliver Dude” and student-run art ventures, helping even the most developmentally delayed students gain valuable work experience and independence.

Beyond her classroom, Trecia shares her expertise with educators across Rhode Island, offering in-service training on transition planning and personal care for special needs students. She has developed a supportive and inclusive team at the Transition Academy and has secured community partnerships, recreational programs, and even group home placements to support her students' growth. From launching recycling efforts to fund student activities to coordinating seasonal camp experiences, Trecia exemplifies the heart, leadership, and innovation deserving of Teacher of the Year.
